Teaching through Movies

For many years, I taught French Language and Francophone (French-speaking countries’) Culture and Civilization at the Universities of The Basque Country, Málaga and Granada, Spain. I owe a lot of the teaching material I built throughout my 20+year-career to movies or documentaries, which enabled me to engage the students in the many topics they needed to learn in a fun, visual way. I wish to share my work with you, homeschooling parent, outside-the-box-thinker teacher, curious student, and all who are eager to learn new things while being entertained. The material will be in English, Spanish or French, depending on the movie and topic.
Now that technologies enable us to watch movies from the comfort of our homes for a small fee or even for free in the Youtube wonderverse :), I thought it was time for me to add my two cents… for 0 cents, offering the teaching materials I still love building.
The best way to use this material is to read the whole set of questions before the screening, and then to start playing the movie while keeping an eye on the questions, established in a chronological order. Replay the section as many times as needed to answer its corresponding question, and then resume the screening until you reach the scene that will answer the next question.
After watching the full movie and answering all the questions, the next class / session / meeting / learning time will enable students and teacher to share their answers, deepen the content addressed with each question, and also open a debate when and if you see fit. I hope this free content will be a nice addition to your teaching / learning adventures!
